Kilimanjaro School of Pharmacy (KSP)

During the regular supportive supervision visits to hospitals with an infusions production unit, which are under the SLF-Infusion Units Program, SLF professionals realized the great shortage of trained and qualified pharmaceutical personnel in hospital pharmacies mainly in Faith-Based owned hospitals under this program.

The recognized need to have trained and qualified pharmaceutical personnel having in mind the goal of a better patient care pharmaceutical services, was the basis of a decision to establish the Kilimanjaro School of Pharmacy ( www.ksp.ac.tz) for training lower and middle cadre (i.e. Pharmaceutical Assistants &  Pharmaceutical Technicians) pharmaceutical personnel as a training institution of SLF in September 2002.

Moreover, KSP was established as a result of efforts made by the Saint Luke Foundation (SLF) through its Infusion Units Programme (IUP) to complement the government’s initiatives to address the critical shortage of human resources for health (HRH) in the country particularly pharmaceutical personnel.

Currently, KSP graduates can be found working in hospital Pharmacies, Community Pharmacies, Pharmaceutical supply chains and Marketing,  Pharmaceutical industries, Medicines Regulatory Authority as well as Pharmaceutical Training institutions.
