The main goal of initiating the Infusion Units Program (IUP) is to assist and support small-scale hospital-based production in healthcare institutions, that cater for common people and are equally committed to sustainable operation through active involvement.
Hence, the activities and services of the IUP from the beginning that are still being carry out by SLF include; installation of machinery, Medical equipment and their accessories required and used for local, hospital-based infusions production units, conducting technical maintenance service to installed medical equipment and accessories used in the hospital infusions production units, supply of the needed raw and packaging materials for local production of the infusions (intravenous fluids) within the hospital pharmacies, Conducting quality control tests of the received infusion supplies at our quality control laboratory before distribution and of samples of produced sterile infusions from hospitals, provision of technical assistance/support for the establishment of infusion production units for the hospitals in need, provision of teaching and training course for healthcare personnel in the making of infusions and conducting supportive supervision visits as part of quality assurance for the operational hospital infusion production units installed in every region of Tanzania and outside the country once a year. This is to ensure that, production procedures and processes are followed and that installed equipment and machines are working properly to assure production of quality and safe infusions.
Currently there are twenty nine (29) hospitals in Tanzania, mostly, Faith-based and Public/Government owned hospitals receiving technical support and services under the umbrella of SLF -IUP. (Map with installed infusion units –TZ).
